Adam Francis Cornford (born 1950, Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne, England) is a British poet, essayist, and educator celebrated for blending surrealism, science, and social commentary. A great-great-grandson of Charles Darwin, Cornford moved to the United States in 1969 and directed the Poetics Program at New College of California in San Francisco for over two decades.
He is the author of acclaimed poetry collections such as Animations, Decision Forest, Lalia, and Liber Ignis, as well as long poems, chapbooks, translations, and experimental theater works. His poetry is praised for its formal clarity, imaginative energy, and engagement with consciousness, culture, and science.
His work has appeared in journals and anthologies including The City Lights Pocket Poets Anthology and Terminal Velocities, and he has been recognized in the Rhysling Anthology for speculative poetry. Cornford currently resides in Southern California, continuing to write, publish, and contribute to contemporary poetry.
